Megalencephaly Capillary Malformation Syndrome (MCAP) added to Social Security Administration Compassionate Allowance List
The U.S. Social Security Administration's Compassionate Allowance List was begun in 2008 to expedite the processing of disability claims by those with particularly disabling or severe conditions. The M-CM Network has been working since 2014 to get M-CM/MCAP included on this list. We are pleased to report that on August 20, 2018, the SSA announced the addition of 5 new conditions to the list, including "Megalencephaly Capillary Malformation Syndrome (MCAP)". Applicants should use this name for the condition when applying for benefits.
Inclusion in the list does not guarantee benefits, applicants will still have to meet the requirements of a claim of disability and fall under income limits. To start the application process, you can apply online, or make an appointment at your local SSA office by calling 1-800-772-1213. There is general information about applying here and information specific to children here, and many more resources throughout the SSA's website.
